SONG LINKS 2        ENGLISH AND AMERICAN TRADITIONAL SONGS

The idea behind Song Links was the making of a double CD to illustrate how the songs changed from continent to continent and to track these changes. Originally these songs would have been learnt orally and although remaining ostensibly the same song they changed.  One CD would be of the English Songs sung by English singers and the other to be the Australian versions of these songs sung by Australian singers with extensive notes on the songs, sources, history and words are compiled and written by Dr. Edgar Waters. Following on to this came Song Links 2 featuring English and American Traditional Songs with the extensive notes compiled and written by Shirley Collins M.B.E. Both the CD’s were launched separately with concerts to great acclaim at both Sidmouth International Folk Festival and Cecil Sharp House, London.

The Singers on the first Song Links were as follows: 

The Copper Family, Bob Copper, John Kirkpatrick, Tony Rose, Shirley Collins, Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson, Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher, Louis Killen, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan.

James and Nancy were also amongst the singers for the Australian songs as were Dave de Hugard, Danny Spooner, Kate Burke & Ruth Hazleton, Cathie O’Sullivan, Martyn Wyndham-Read.
